I am a local meteorologist for the Upper Cumberlands of Tennessee. I absolutely love tracking and forecasting the weather for this region! It is certainly an interesting place for weather!
If you ever want to talk weather you have found an ear! I hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoy writing for it!
Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast!Bringing you your local weather since 2017!
Storms are developing across parts of the area and that should continue through the afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center just highlighted our area, seen below, in a discussion. They do not anticipate issuing any watches but they re-emphasized the possibility for isolated severe storms this afternoon capable of producing damaging wind gusts, hail, and frequent lightning. Localized flash flooding is also a risk. That storm chance is 50%.
If you have outdoor plans this afternoon and evening, especially at area lakes, keep an eye on that radar and have nearby shelter just in case one of these storms nears your location. Remember, when thunder roars…go indoors.

Yesterday’s storms stayed to our west, but we’ll be watching to see where they from today! High pressure continue stowly break down across the area, which gives us these chances for storms. Like yesterday, any storm that forms will move east to west, which is backwards from what we’re used to. That’s due to the flow around the high that is control. This pattern of storms moving east to west often happens several times through the summer months in the South. A more active pattern is expected to evolve next week, which should bring us better rainfall chances.

A severe t-storm watch has been issued for portions of Middle and West TN until 8:00 pm. This is west of us here on the plateau (that could change, so stay tuned). If you have plans to go toward Lebanon or Nashville this evening be aware of this. The whole state is actually at risk for severe storms today, so keep an eye on that radar if you have outdoor plans and stay alert to any warnings that may be issued. I’ll keep an eye on things
Remember to be safe in the afternoon heat (drink water, stay in the shade, and take frequent breaks).
The severe t-storm watch covers the counties highlighted in purple below.

Yesterday we saw some big storms in the South. Today, those could develop closer to our neck of the woods. Hot high pressure is slowly breaking down, allowing for more of a risk for storms. Plus, a disturbance in the atmosphere this afternoon could kick off even more showers and storms.
