5-Day Forecast

MM says…Scattered shrs and storms continue to dominate the forecast. A front may bring severe storms on Tuesday but it also brings less humidity by Thursday!

MM’s Weather Worries

MM’s Wx Analysis

Unsettled weather remains in place in our neck of the woods, as high humidity and hot afternoons work together to produce scattered shrs and storms.

Canadian wildfire smoke will push into the Midwest, worsening air quality. A frontal system brings severe storms from the Northern Plains to the Mid‑Atlantic the next few days. Heavy Gulf Coast rain is possible as we closely monitor tropical development, while monsoonal storms persist in the Southwest with heavy rainfall. Hazardous heat expands from the Plains into the Lower Mississippi Valley.

The tropical system in the Gulf now has an 80% chance of becoming a tropical depression or low-end tropical storm. It now looks as if it will move more westward and impact coastal Lousiana, Alabama, and the panhandle of Florida. Guidance keeps it under 45 mph at its strongest.

Drought Conditions

This graphic is released to the public every Thursday.

Overall, much of the state improved with this update! Last week, 82% of our state was in drought. This week, only 55% of our state is in drought. That’s aa incredible improvement! Here on the plateau, results are mixed. Portions of our northern areas have been removed from drought, while other, including nearly all of Cumberland County, remain in severe drought.

7:30 Saturday Evening Update: Watching Storms

Good evening, everyone! I just wanted to give you all a quick heads up concerning a couple of complexes of t-storms that may impact our area overnight. These may weaken with the setting sun and not be an issue at all. However, there are plenty of reasons why they should hold together. I’m not expecting anything severe at this time. The first complex should arrive around midnight, with the only one coming a couple hours later (if both hold together). I just don’t want you to be alarmed if you hear thunder and see lightning overnight. After sunset, those of you who enjoy watching lightning from a distance might look north and see some of that in the coming hours. If you can’t hear thunder, you’re safe to watch the lightning.

Sunday afternoon’s weather map does a good job showing what I’m expecting. More scattered showers and storms will cover the radar once again (70% chance). Be aware of this if you need to be out and about on Sunday. I’ll keep an eye on things and keep you all posted!

If the need arises, I’ll issue any special updates, as needed.

Otherwise, I’ll have a full forecast update in the morning. I’ll see ya then!
