The only warning that remains is the flash flood warning for the northern half of Overton and Fentress counties, as well as all of Pickett County.

The good news is that storms in our area are losing their punch. The front has continued to slow down and that’s a good thing when it comes to severe storms. However, that may enhance the flash flood threat. This slower motion may mean that this activity doesn’t reach I-40 for at least another hour. This front is really slamming on its brakes! ha

These storms contain frequent lightning but hopefully that will calm down too.

I’ll keep an eye on things but I wanted to let you all know that I’m feeling much better about our weather. I know many of you get very nervous when severe storms threaten, especially when you see dramatic graphics shared on social media. We’re on a good trend but we’ll also remain weather aware until the threat passes. I’ll keep ya posted!

The severe t-storm warning continues but now a flash flood warning has been issued for all of Pickett, the northern half of Overton (including Livingston) and the northern half of Fentress county (including Jamestown and Allardt).

The orange is the severe storm warning area, and the green is the flash flood warning area. The flash flood warning expires at 10:45 pm. The flash flood warning covers a much larger area than the severe storm warning.

As these storms slow down, flooding is likely to become the greater threat this evening.

From the last post….A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Pickett, extreme northern Overton, and northern Fentress county until 7:45 pm. This storm has had some rotation and was earlier tornado-warned in Kentucky. Just be aware that a quick spin-up can’t be ruled out. Otherwise, look for the potential for damaging wind gusts, very heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Pickett, extreme northern Overton, and northern Fentress county until 7:45 pm. This storm has had some rotation and was earlier tornado-warned in Kentucky. Just be aware that a quick spin-up can’t be ruled out. Otherwise, look for the potential for damaging wind gusts, very heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning.

The warned area can be seen below, shaded in orange. This is north of Livingston and does not include you all in Livingston. It’s also north of Jamestown and does not include you all in Jamestown. The storms are moving south at 20 mph (it’s actually a good sign that storms are slowing their forward motion. That often reduces the severe threat).

Severe storms continue moving south from Kentucky.

The radar is lighting up in southern Kentucky, as our line continues pushing southward. There have been several tornado warnings but, as expected, many of them are losing their rotation as they near the TN/KY border. Still, these storms are packing a punch. It was believed that there would be more a line to track but storms remain more scattered. That enhanced the tornado potential in Kentucky (though there still haven’t been too many damage reports that I’ve seen). We’ll continue to track these storms as they move southward. You folks closer to the TN/KY border should be seeing these within the hour, as they track south at 35 mph. These storms do contain LOTS of lightning and torrential downpours of rain. I wouldn’t want to be on the road and encounter one of these storms.

As we get on into the evening, we may see more a flood threat develop, which is much more typical with summer fronts (as opposed to a tornado threat). My thinking hasn’t changed throughout the day, with a risk for severe storms this evening, with straight-line winds and flooding being the main severe weather threats.
