At this hour, severe t-storms are moving through the Nashville area. The good news is that those storms are pushing south toward Alabama. The storms that we’re watching for the plateau are developing just south of Louisville, Kentucky. Those are the ones I was expecting to develop and push in here sometime around midnight.
Storms have held together very well this evening and that’s thanks to a very warm, muggy, and unstable atmosphere. The storms in Kentucky that I’m tracking our way could certainly grow stronger. That’s something I’ll keep an eye on in the coming hours.
The clouds we’re seeing now are the tops being blown off that big complex of storms blasting through Nashville. Some of you all may even be seeing some rain from these clouds in Putnam and Overton County.
At this time, the Storm Prediction Center isn’t talking about a severe t-storm watch for our area but I’ll keep an eye on that. Regardless, any storm tonight could certainly be on the strong side. I’ll continue to monitor things and let you know if there’s anything you need to know about.
If you choose to go to bed, just make sure you can get an alert if a warning were to be issued. Make sure your weather radio is turned on.

A severe t-storm watch is in effect until midnight for portions of Kentucky. These will likely be extended south in time.

I didn’t change much with this graphic from this morning, except to increase tonight’s rain chances to 70% from the 50% I had forecast this morning. As I see how tonight’s storms interact with us, etc., I may be able to lower rain chances for Monday in the Monday morning forecast update. Stay tuned.
The bars in orange represent the timeframe that I’m currently most concerned with severe storms. Please keep in mind that any storm that forms in this enviroment could rapidly become severe.
5-Day Forecast
MM says…I’m watching for storms dropping in from the northwest through Tuesday. Any storm could pack a punch. Lower humidity on Wednesday and Thursday will feel very nice!
As expected, confidence for Monday and Tuesday has increased since our Friday night update.
MM’s Weather Worriesfor the Week
Tonight will be a weather alert night. If that threat changes, I will issue special updates to let you know. Hopefully, storms will weaken after sunset. They may also just give us a glancing blow. It’s all something to watch tonight.

MM’s Wx Analysis
This evening’s weather is active! Those storms diving southward have our attention.
Monday’s weather map is active too! Storms are very close by and we’ll be mindful of that on Monday.
Finally, the cold front pushes through on Tuesday. This front brings a risk for severe storms but it also brings in nicer weather for Wednesday and Thursday.
Our strong jetstream winds aloft continue to be from the northwest, potentially steering strong storms our way from Kentucky.
Additional Analysis
While we don’t have much to talk about in the tropics on our side of the world, the Pacific continues to be very active. This is expected in an El Nino year, when Pacific Ocean waters are warmer than normal. This storm seen here may impact the Hawaiin Islands this week. The brunt of the storm should stay just north of them, but they may still see some impacts.
This storm is an impressive cat 3 today. Notice how pretty it is on satellite. It will stay away from land as it spins out into the open Pacific. Storms have a LOT of room to play in over there!
This is radar-estimated rainfall over the past three days. We continue to make a dent in the regional drought. More areas will likely be removed from drought in Thursday’s update.

For those who may have missed my updates since Friday night, I just wanted to remind you all of the Sunday evening weekly in-depth weather update coming this evening.
I also wanted to let you know that our severe threat for tonight is increasing but I’m monitoring it all very closely.
Those of you who tuned in for Friday night’s in-depth weather check know that I’ve been concerned about storm complexes dropping down from the north. Well, unfortunately my concerns were valid and we have our first threat of one of those late tonight (perhaps after midnight). These storms could be severe, so I’m watching everything very closely over the coming hours. I’m also analyzing our impacts and will have much on this tonight.
This won’t be our last severe storm threat in the days ahead. I’ll have MUCH more in tonight’s Sunday night weekly update!
