9:25pm Update

Issued Aug 1, 2026

Folks, this line is looking much better and is having trouble navigating the plateau. That is good news.

I don’t foresee having any more issues with severe weather today. This line will continue moving across the plateau and should continue this slow weakening trend.

This should be my last update for the evening. You all take care.

8:30 Weather Update

Issued Aug 1, 2026

The severe storm moving through northern Fentress County will stay north of Jamestown, but not by much. It is moving northeast toward Kentucky. You folks in extreme northern Fentress (ie Alvin C York area) and eastern Pickett will be impacted by this storm. It doesn’t have rotation but sometimes that doesn’t show up until after a tornado has occurred.

The warning remains until 8:45.

The rest of us have a strong line of storms to contend with. Thankfully, this is a line and not the isolated cells we had earlier. Lines are much less prone to producing any tornadic activity. These storms are not listed as severe but radar indicates that they contain heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.

Other important weather information will be shared when needed. This includes additional severe weather information, model data, drought info, hurricane info, and more. Some of these can be found as tabs to this page at any time.

Severe T-Storm Warning Overton, Fentress, & Pickett County until 8:45

Issued Aug 1, 2026 at 7:15 pm

We have a line of strong storms that has developed to our west. We need to be weather aware for the next hour or so…until this line moves through. We still have no watches but we have had the brief confirmed tornado that occurred in Vandever in southern Cumberland County earlier. It came with no warning whatsover.

I would treat this warning the same as a tornado warning, as they can occur with little or no warning.

The warning can be seen shaded in orange below.

Other important weather information will be shared when needed. This includes additional severe weather information, model data, drought info, hurricane info, and more. Some of these can be found as tabs to this page at any time.
