MM’s Tues 5-Day: Monitoring Storm Threats

Issued Tuesday morning, April 21, 2026

I was honored to have been asked to judge 4-H demonstrations yesterday at the Community Complex! There were so many incredible projects, and it was so cool to get to see those and the incredibly smart kiddos who put those together! One project I had the opportunity to judge belonged to one of my storm chase kiddos! He demonstrated how to identify a tornado using Doppler radar! Robert Ricker did a great job with that. Side note…it was Robert’s insistence that led to the creation of storm chase camp! What were the chances I’d be judging his demonstration? lol

Check out the new radar, available for those of you accessing the app, brought to us by WeatherTAP, located right here in Crossville, TN! For those accessing this through email, you’ll need to go to the https://meteorologistmark.com/ website to see that radar.

MM’s Forecast for the Plateau

Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

Dry weather continues, which also means lots of sunshine.

While rainfall amounts have trended down a bit for the weekend, guidance continues to point to a wetter weekend. Right now, Saturday looks like the wetter of the two days. I’ll also have to monitor for the risk of severe storms with that, though right now nothing just jumps out at me.

We may get a bit of a break on Sunday (50% chance for rain?), before a strong cold front impacts our area with rain and storms on Monday. Those storms may carry a severe storm threat, so I’ll be monitoring that very closely in the coming days.

Threat Outlook

Severe storms are not expected anywhere in the U.S. for Sunday, Monday or Tuesday!

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has already started highlighting our region for the risk for severe storms on Monday. This is something to monitor closely in the coming days. The SPC doesn’t highlight threats this far out unless confidence is unusually high.

Be sure to follow this site and/or download the free Meteorologist Mark app from your app store to get updates about the weather of the Cumberland Plateau sent to your phone as soon as I send them out. Thank you all so much!

Nothin’ but blue skies!

While that sunshine sure looks good, we sure could use the rain! Unfortunately, the next best chance of rain doesn’t look to come until at least Friday night.

As for frost, it now looks like the winds will switch to the south before the coldest hours of Tuesday morning, sparing us frost. There will be no more frost worries through the week and weekend.

Guidance this morning shows a wet weekend coming for use. However, let’s hope guidance doesn’t trend downward with that like it has the past several systems. I know we don’t like rain on the weekend, but with severe drought conditions in place, we’ll take whatever we can get whenever it wants to fall.

Saturday night’s rain sure was a welcome sight! I picked nearly half an inch in my gauge.

Now, we settle in for a streak of dry and sunny days. Our next rain chance comes Friday and into the weekend (as it looks right now). That could come with storms. I’ll keep an eye on that.

Clear skies, calm winds, and radiational cooling will likely lead to scattered frost tonight and Monday night.
