1:35 pm Saturday Afternoon Special Update

Issued June 27, 2026

Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!

MM’s Forecast Update for the Plateau

The Storm Prediction Center has done two noteworthy things this afternoon. First, they upgraded our entire region to a slight risk for severe storms. We had been in the marginal risk. Marginal is level 1, while slight is level 2 out of 5 (with 5 being the highest level of threat). That just means we don’t need to let our guard down this afternoon and evening.

Second, they issued a severe t-storm watch for the Nashville are until 8:00 pm. This reaches as far east as Carthage but does not include Putnam County. We are near that watch, so we need to be weather-aware as well. Be especially mindful of this if you have travel plans to the west this evening. The counties in that watch can be seen highlighted on the map below.

We are seeing more and more showers and storms developing this afternoon. As I said this morning, any of these storms could become severe. Damaging straight-line winds are the main threat but a spin-up tornado can’t be ruled out.

My level of concern is unchanged from this morning. We still consider this a Meteorologist Mark Weather Alert Day on the plateau. Outdoor plans are strongly discouraged for the rest of today and this evening.

My thoughts on the threats remains unchanged, with the SPC’s upgrade to slight risk only reinforcing my thoughts from this morning. Threats are low, but certainly not zero.

As always, I’ll keep a very close eye on things and issue updates throughout the rest of today and tonight, as needed.

MM’s Hourly Forecast

5-Day Forecast

MM says…Outdoor plans looks super risky today. Scattered showers and storms will be the rule of the day.

6-10 Day Temp & Precip Outlook

MM says…Hot temps are still showing up in the extended outlook. Thankfully, these outlooks are also trending a bit wetter!

MM’s Weather Worries

MM’s Wx Analysis

Today’s weather map shows active weather in the eastern U.S. and active weather across the northwest U.S. For our region, a frontal boudary will interact with very humid air being funneled our direction by an area of high pressure in the Gulf. The backside of that high is sending that humid air straight toward us, while a frontal boundary tries to drop down from the north. The interaction of those features will give us a shot at strong storms and very heavy rainfall.

MM’s Fri 5-Day: Watching Out for Storms

Today is Friday, June 26, 2026

I’ll issue special updates, as needed, through the weekend!

4:00 Update: A flood watch is in effect for Saturday.

4:30 Update: Clouds have helped keep us stable today, lowering our risk for severe storms. Still, any storms that form overnight could be severe. I’ll keep an eye on that. Tornado watches are now in effect for western Kentucky until 10:00 pm. Much of that activity should stay just north of our area. Again, like I said this morning, those of you along and north of a line from Livingston to Jamestown to Oneida are most at risk this evening and overnight.

7:10 Update: The tornado watches for Kentucky have been cancelled early.

Friday Funny

MM’s Hourly Forecast

5-Day Forecast

MM says…If you have outdoor plans today, keep an eye on the radar and stay tuned for any special updates. Otherwise, it’s a warm and humid day on the plateau!

6-10 Day Temp & Precip Outlook

MM says…Well above normal temps continue to be favored in the extended outlooks. Those outlooks are also favoring dry weather. Normal highs and lows this time of year are 82°/62°.

MM’s Weather Worries

MM’s Wx Analysis

We have some very active just to our northwest today. Severe storms are likely today across portions of Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana. Some of those storms could even occur in our neck of the woods. As that system moves south on Saturday, it will increase our rain and storm chances. That high pressure you see in the eastern Gulf will help funnel warm and humid air from the Gulf into our region. You’ll definitely be feeling that!

Special Thursday Evening Update

Issued June 25, 2026 at 7:00 pm

Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!

MM’s Forecast Update for the Plateau

Good evening, folks. I just wanted to quickly say that while t-storm chances are just 30-50% for Friday afternoon/evening, there are indications that any storm that forms could be severe. I say that often with summer storms but guidance is showing that severe risk to be a bit higher than for typical summer storms. I’ll continue to watch the guidance and see how this trends. The greater risk for severe storms will be to the west of the plateau.

Then, we’ll see a threat for severe storms on Saturday. That’s the threat I talked about in this morning’s update. Those threats are still low-end but, again, higher than for typical summer storm stuff.

There are indications that at least some tornado threat will exist. That could even be the case for a storm tomorrow afternoon/evening on the plateau. That risk is very low on Friday (but not zero) and low on Saturday. Again, these are things I’m watching closely and we’ll see how guidance trends overnight and in the morning. I’ll have a full update in the morning, so please stay tuned for that.

If you have outdoor plans tomorrow, don’t cancel them. Just make sure you have an indoor back-up plan and that you keep an eye on the radar, keeping in mind that any storm that does form could be severe.

You all have a wonderful evening. We have no weather worries for our Thursday night!
