9:30 Mon Night Update: Squall line develops

Issued Monday, April 27, 2026

The squall line is taking shape at this hour in Missouri. I can now narrow our main threat timeframe to 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., with the main bulk of the line arriving around 4:00 a.m. on the plateau. Some storms could develop ahead of the line, as shown on some short-term models, but they shouldn’t be severe.

At this time, the storms are very severe over Missouri, with tornado watches being issued. The line will intensify over the next few hours and is likely to impact West TN with the potential for areas of significant severe weather, including some strong tornadoes. If you have family and friends in West TN, you may want to make sure they’re paying attention to the weather tonight.

As that line enters Middle TN, it will begin to weaken in our more stable atmosphere. By the time it arrives here, we will have the threat for some damaging wind gusts. Hopefully, it just weakens down to rain and thunder. The risk for tornadoes for us is very low.

So, we’ll be tracking this line through the night. Make sure your weather radio is on before going to bed just in case we get a warning.

We have another threat Tuesday night, but right now it looks like the worst of that will stay west of us. I’ll continue to keep an eye on that.

You all take care. I’ll be here if anything comes up that you need to know about.

MM’s Mon Eve Special Update: Monitoring Severe Storm Risk

Issued Monday, April 27, 2026 at 7:00 pm

Good evening, everyone. There remains the risk for severe storms after midnight. Storms have struggled to develop this evening to our west, so exact timing of the squal line isn’t possible just yet. Once the line forms later this evening, we’ll be able to track it eastward to our area.

Please stay tuned for updates through the evening. I’ll do at least one more update at or before 10:00 pm.

I always have a link that you can refresh your severe weather safety skills at https://meteorologistmark.com/severe-weather-safety/

Our threats tonight remain on the lower end of the threat scale. They’re low but not zero. We’ll just have to wait and see how the line behaves as it moves across Middle TN. Once that line forms, I’ll do a special update to give you the latest information. I don’t anticipate raising these threats, but more data will be coming in the next couple of hours that will give me more insight.

The threat timeframe as seen below, may also change. The line of storms may not arrive until closer to 5:00 a.m. per the latest data I’ve looked at. I should have a clearer picture of that with the next update.

As many of you already know, we located Buddy and it wasn’t the outcome we had hoped for, but at least we know where he is. It’s been a rough day, to say the least. I know some of you have probably wondered if I would still be watching the weather tonight and the answer is yes. I actually welcome the distraction. You all have no idea how much your kind words, compassion, and prayers have meant to me during all of this. I have no words to thank you for those except……thank you.

MM’s Mon 5-Day: Monitoring Severe Storm Risks

Issued Monday morning, April 27, 2026

We have two severe weather threats coming. One is late tonight and the other is for Tuesday night. Please stay tuned for updates. Make sure you have multiple ways to get warnings, just in case.

Also, thank you to those who are praying for the safe return of my dog Buddy. We continue the search.

MM’s Forecast for the Plateau

Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

We don’t have anything to worry about today, but that changes later tonight.

It will be partly cloudy and warm today. Humidity will also increase. That will prepare the environment for rain and storms late tonight. Some of those storms could be severe, with damaging winds the main threat.

Yet another severe storm threat is developing for Tuesday night, with another risk for damaging winds.

We turn much cooler the end of next week. We may avoid frost if clouds stick around (as it looks like they might).

Threat Outlook

Be sure to follow this site and/or download the free Meteorologist Mark app from your app store to get updates about the weather of the Cumberland Plateau sent to your phone as soon as I send them out. Thank you all so much!

I maintain the same threat levels for Monday night and Tuesday night as I have from the beginning.

We’ll be mindful of another threat Tuesday night.

The main severe storm threat stays to our west today and tonight, but we will be mindful of a weakening squall line that will be moving in after midnight. That line could still pack a punch when it gets here, with damaging winds being the main threat. The SPC has also issued a slight risk for Tuesday night for the Cumberland Plateau.

Special Sun Night Update: Monitoring Mon & Tues Night Severe Wx

Issued Sunday, April 26, 2026 at 8:00 pm

Good evening, everyone. I just wanted to update you on the severe storm risks for Monday and Tuesday nights. The risk for Monday night is a low-end one but not zero. The risk Tuesday night is a bit higher but still not overly concerning, as it looks right now. Please check back for updates, as forecasts can change quickly this time of year.

I always have a link that you can refresh your severe weather safety skills at https://meteorologistmark.com/severe-weather-safety/

I have not changed the Monday night or Tuesday night graphics since this morning’s update. As we get closer to these events, there may be a need to adjust these threats, so please stay tuned.

The threat Monday night looks to be after midnight, though that could change. The timing for the threat Tuesday night is too difficult to pinpoint just yet.

One good thing is that the greatest risk for tornadoes Monday night continues to be well to our northwest. AND that threat has diminished with today’s guidance. That is very good news for everyone!

For now, I’m comfortable leaving these threats at these levels.

Unfortunately, the threat for tornados continues to expand and it inches ever so closer to the plateau. When this forecast first started yesterday, this highlighted area was much smaller and much farther away. I’ll continue to monitor this trend and see how this evolves on Monday and Tuesday.

As always, I’ll keep a very close eye on things and keep you updated on the latest. Remember, I’ll have a fresh update out in the morning, as well. You all take care.
