Possible Tornado Cumberland County

Issued Aug 1, 2026

A storm producing a possible tornado is moving toward Crab Orchard. There is no warning but there has been damage and video showing a funnel with that storm. Just be aware of this if you’re in eastern Cumberland County.

4:55pm Weather Update

Issued Aug 1, 2026

Storms continue to develop in the area but they all remain below severe limits. A couple of storms down near McMinnville were tagged as being “strong” by the NWS, but they have since settled back down. Actually, I had just posted on Facebook that I was watching the McMinnville storm closely when it suddenly began weakening. lol Maybe I just need to post about this stuff more often and then they’ll weaken? ha!

Seriously, we still can’t rule out an isolated severe storm this evening. The threat should end by 7:00 pm. Nothing has my attention at this time. If that changes, I’ll let ya know!

I continue to feel better! We’re still not out of the woods completely, but we’re trending in a good direction.

2:45pm Saturday Update

Issued Aug 1, 2026

Clouds are holding tight and, despite adequate wind shear and moisture, storms just aren’t finding enough of a reason to grow vertically into the atmosphere overhead. If sun could come out more, storms would erupt more.

Radar trends are showing more shower and thundershower activity breaking out across Middle TN at this hour. That’s good! That’s keeping the severe weather threat down (versus sunnier skies and a destabilizing atmosphere).

My concern is improving! Trends are currently in our favor!

The only change I made to this graphic from this morning is to shorten our window of opportunity for severe storms. It’s now from now until 7:00 pm. Rain chances remain very elevated this afternoon, as is evident by radar at this hour.

I reduced the tornado threat for this update. The Storm Prediction Center has considered issuing a watch for our area, but they are yet to do that. They had said there was a 40% chance for getting a watch.

As always, I’ll keep an eye on things. While my concern is decreasing, we still need to remain weather-aware, even for the isolated risk for a severe storm. That one storm matters if it’s in your backyard.

You all take care!

Saturday Afternoon Weather Update

Issued Aug 1, 2026 at 1:15 pm

We need to be weather-aware through the rest of the afternoon and into the evening. A cold front will be moving across Tennessee, leading to a risk for storms, some of which could be severe. An isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.

The Storm Prediction Center issued a special statement saying there’s a 40% chance for a severe t-storm watch being issued this afternoon. It just depends on how much cloud cover holds in place this afternoon. If we get any sun, that will destabilize the atmosphere and increase the chances for severe storms. If clouds can hold, our chances stay lower.

A flash flood threat continues through today, as well.

My concern is unchanged from this morning. I’ll keep you posted on this.

The hourly forecast is right on track. I didn’t have to change a thing since this morning’s update.

Everything is still on track with this graphic, as well. All threats are low, but certainly not zero. The flash flood threat is of medium concern.

I’ll keep an eye on things through the day and evening and let you know if there’s anything you need to know about!
