The severe t-storm warning continues for Putnam, White, and Van Buren counties until 9:00 pm.
The line continues to slowly weaken but the gust front ahead of the storms is what has prompted the warning. As this line moves across the plateau later this evening, we’ll likely see a burst of gusty winds with that gust front. Hopefully, they’ll weaken to levels where a warning isn’t needed. Remember, a severe t-storm is for winds greater than 58 mph. If the NWS thinks we might have a gust of that magnitude, they’ll issue a warning.
The gust front is well ahead of the precipiation, so you won’t be able to go by the radar returns to know where the gustiest winds are. These gust fronts often develop as storms collapse and weaken, which is what we’re seeing with this activity this evening.
There have been reports of downed trees but I haven’t seen anything widespread or extreme reported. It’s mostly a downed tree here and there.
I’ll keep watching it!
