Special Thurs Afternoon Update

Issued Thursday, April 16, at 1:15 pm.

A special NWS briefing at 1:00 just reinforces my belief that this evening’s severe storm is a very low threat. It is much more likely that storms will weaken before reaching the plateau later this evening.

Still, we’ll err on the side of caution and call it a Meteorologist Mark Weather Alert Evening. The main risk is from a damaging straight-line wind gust. I’d say the probability of a severe storm is about 20%.

As always, I’ll keep a very close eye on things. We need the rain, as this morning’s drought update shows nearly all of the plateau in severe drought conditions.

These graphics are unchanged from this morning.
