MM’s Friday Night Update for the Weekend

This is Friday evening, July 17, 2026

This is an abbreviated look at the Friday night update. It’s been a busy evening keeping an eye on storms and getting flash flood warnings out. Please be safe this evening in areas that have recieved flash flooding this evening.

The areas with flash flood warnings are shaded in green. The Cumberland County one is active until 8:45. The one farther west is active until 9:45.

And we just got some new flash flood warnings for the Celina area down toward Gainsboro until 10:30.

Saturday’s weather map shows more unsettled weather once again. The greatest risk for severe storms will be found across the Northeast, where a huge area of threat is outlined.

Our threats remain the same this weekend. A damaging wind gust can’t be ruled out, but flash flooding is the greater threat.

Rain chances have been reduced from 70% to 50% with the latest round of data. I’ll have a full update on this in the morning. Widespread showers and storms once again appear likely on Sunday. By next week, we return to your typical isolated summer afternoon storms.

In the tropics, an area of low pressure may form in the northeast Gulf. That system has a 30% chance of becoming a tropical storm before it moves across northern Florida and then into the Atlantic. This system will not become a hurricane, but it could kick up waves and produce bands of showers and gusty winds for portions of the Southeast through Monday.

Again, I’ll have a full update in the morning! You all take care!
