Good evening, folks! Severe t-storm watches have now been extended south to the TN/KY border, so you folks in Pickett and northern Fentress county are just a rock’s throw from that watch. It’s looking more like these storms will skirt just to our east and they should weaken as they continue southward in the coming hours. Still, you folks in Scott and Morgan counties may have the best chance for thunder later tonight.

In this enviroment, it’s hard to let your guard down about storms. Last night we had some noise makers near Byrdstown and northern Fentress county. I heard the thunder down here in Rinnie. Several of you messaged me making sure I wasn’t worried about those storms. You all are always welcome to do that. I know night storms can be scarier.

I’ll keep an eye on things and I’ll issue special updates, if needed. I’m about to step out and see if I can spot any distant lightning. You can see it for MILES away from on top of this plateau.

Well folks, another night….another complex of storms to track. Last night, many of us were spared. There is a disorganized mess of storms coming into northern Kentucky at this hour. Those are pushing south but will likely weaken before getting here in the midnight to 2:00 a.m. timeframe. I suspect they will begin weakening after sunset.

I will, of course, keep a very close eye on these storms and issue any special updates, if needed.

FYI, these storms may make for some impressive lightning on the northern horizon later this evening. If you like looking for that, be sure and start looking after 9:00 pm or so.

The wind damage from last evening’s storms was mostly confined to the western edge of that complex. Oddly, even the storms that bowed out in front of the line, where most wind damage occurs, had much fewer wind damage reports that the storms on the western edge of the cluster of storms.

Things are looking better for us. The worst of the storms dove toward the Nashville area and now we’re left with just a mess of scattered showers and storms across the region. The strongest storm right now is near Monticello, KY, just north of Pickett and Fentress counties. That storm is moving east/southeast.

Overall, things are looking more disorganized. Don’t be surprised if you hear thunder overnight, as there are plenty more scattered showers and storms across Kentucky that could slip our way overnight.
