Thursday Afternoon Special Update

The message remains the same….we’ll be weather-aware Friday night for the possibility for severe storms. All modes of severe weather will be possible, including the risk for a tornado.

While no two events are ever the same, this could be like last Friday night’s storms. Like with last week’s storms, I’ll let you know if any storm shows organized rotation, whether it’s warned or not (like the storm that was in Crab Orchard during Friday night’s event).

In addition to severe storms, winds will become very gusty from the south Friday night. These winds could approach gusts of 50 mph both Friday night and Saturday. In fact, Saturday is looking very windy!

Between the winds and the storms, it’s a good idea to prepare for power outages once again.

Since this will be another overnight event, make sure you have multiple ways to get warnings. This can include weather radios (ideal), a weather app, or someone who will be up and can call you.

I highly recommend downloading the free Cumberland County EMA app. The Red Cross Tornado App is another good one, especially for those of you outside of Cumberland County.

Now is the time to prepare. Don’t wait until the storms get here to realize you’re unprepared. I have useful tips at https://meteorologistmark.com/severe-weather-safety/ and I have weather radio info at https://meteorologistmark.com/noaa-weather-radio/

I have increased my wind concerns for this update. I also increased my tornado concerns a bit. The Storm Prediction Center shares my concerns.

Please note that there is already concern for another storm system coming next Tuesday-Wednesday. Let’s focus on this one coming Friday night first, though.

I’ll be watching it all, folks. I’m your hometown meteorologist doing what I do. 🙂

You all enjoy this beautiful day!
