Weekend Edition
Forecast at a Glance (New!)
This is just something I’m experimenting with a bit. I may add to it in the future. I’m just seeing what you all think at this point. If you have a suggestion feel free to drop me a note!
Headlines
It’s Launch Day!
Beautiful weather ahead!
Storm chances increase toward midweek
Main threats
No hazardous weather is expected for the next several days.
By Wednesday night and Thursday, we may have to keep an eye on storms dropping in form the north. I’ll keep an eye on it.
Baldwin’s Severe Wx Concern
The passage of a cold front will lead to a very stable and quite airmass over the next several days.
Increasing heat and humidity, as well as the threat of storms dropping in on us from the plains, my concern level ticks up a bit beginning Wednesday night. I’ll fine tune this as we get closer to time, but don’t be surprised if this concern increases.
Baldwin’s 7-Day forecast
Daily Forecast
Today – Tuesday: Partly cloudy to mostly sunny. Warm, pleasant afternoons and cool, crisp nights. Low humidity will be quite nice.
Wednesday: Partly cloudy skies. It will be warmer and humidity will be coming back.
Thursday – Friday: Partly cloudy. Warm and humid. Scattered showers and storms will return.
Hay Weather Forecast
The weather is looking great for working in hay! Lower humidity and rain-free skies will be us through Wednesday. Rain chances come back Thursday and Friday. I’ll have a video update soon to discuss next week in more detail!
Almanac
Yesterday’s National High and Low Temperature
High: 118 at Death Valley, California
Low: 30 at Glen Ullin, North Dakota
Difference of: 88 degrees
Tropics
Chances continue to increase for our next storm to form soon out in the Atlantic. This storm would be Cristobal. Should this become a named storm before Monday, it will be the first time we have ever seen three named storms before the hurricane season officially started.
Records
On this day in 1971 Mariner 9 was launched. It was the first vehicle to ever orbit a planet other than Earth. It gathered valuable data about the Red Planet.
Launch Day!
Well, the worm is back!
NASA’s now retro logo from the ’70s has been resurrected! You can see it on the Falcon 9 rocket that will carry the astronauts on DEMO-2 away from our planet on their way to the International Space Station today (hopefully!). Looks sleek, right?
The worm was officially introduced in 1975 and honored by President Reagan in 1985 for its simplistic and innovative design.
The worm largely disappeared in the early ’90s but it is back now!
Many people still prefer the image of NASA introduced in the ’50s. It is referred to as the “meatball.” Don’t worry, the meatball isn’t going anywhere, but neither is the worm, according to NASA.
Hopefully, the launch will take place today at 2:22 this afternoon. We sure do wish them the best and godspeed on their trip! I found a quote by a former astronaut I thought you might enjoy. It kinda sums it all up (ha).
“Anyone who sits on top of the largest hydrogen-oxygen fueled system in the world, knowing they’re going to light the bottom, and doesn’t get a little worried, does not fully understand the situation.”
Baldwin’s View-of-the-Day
DEMO-1 launched in the very early morning hours of March 2, 2019. It was uncrewed. DEMO-2 will attempt to launch again this afternoon, with two astronauts onboard.
Re weather at a glance, fonts need to be larger. Hard to read on an iPhone
Sent from Diane’s iPhone >^..^
Thanks, Diane! That is very good to know and something I can easily fix. Appreciate the feedback!
Please don’t eliminate the weather threat maps.
You got it, Reb!
