Friday Weather Update
Another system will move into the region on Friday, bringing a variety of light precip to the area. We’ll start the day with southerly breezes that will bring in warmer air for Friday. As that warmer air moves in, a few snow flurries may be flyin’ in the morning. These are not expected to cause any serious issues.
Incidentally, overnight lows tonight should hold steady or rise a bit, as winds switch from a southerly direction before midnight.
As we get into the afternoon hours of Friday, rain and sleet will likely move into the area. That wintry mix will likely occur while surface temps are above freezing, preventing serious issues. However, after sunset the temperature will fall below freezing and precip to change to all snow. That snow is expected to stay on the light side, but light accumulation of snowfall is certainly possible. The bulk of the precip should end by midnight, with only flurries lingering afterward and into Saturday morning.
I’ve shared the graphic below before and it’s relevant again on Friday. With such dry air here at the surface, rain is almost sure to start out as sleet in the afternoon. But, with surface temps above freezing, problems aren’t expected. That could change after sunset, when precip starts changing to snow and surface temps drop below freezing.

We’ll need to be weather aware on Friday for any forecast changes that may need to be made.

The hourly weather for Friday shows low precip chances until later in the afternoon. The purple represents a wintry mix. However, notice temps don’t fall below freezing until later in the evening.

I’ve increased my confidence in picking up some light snow.

The Weather Prediction Center is highlighting the threat in our area, as well. Also, if you have travel plans north of the plateau, be prepared for hazardous travel Friday night and Saturday.
