Local 5-Day Forecast for the Plateau

Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

A beautiful start to the workweek!

It’s a beautiful Monday for us, but not for everyone. A complex of severe storms is making its way through southern Arkansas this morning. That complex will continue pushing eastward through the day and may even impact southern portions of Tennessee tonight. For us, we’re far enough north to miss out on the severe threat, but scattered showers and even some thundershowers are liable to develop after midnight on the plateau. These are not expected to be severe.

Tuesday will carry the risk for some showers and thundershowers, with rain chances at about 50%. It’s definitely not a washout of a day, but one where you might keep an umbrella handy, just in case.

By Wednesday, things become quite unsettled as a powerful storm system gathers strength to our west. That system will likely send showers and thundershowers into our region Wednesday morning, followed by a break in the afternoon and early evening. That break will be followed by a severe storm risk later in the evening. The main risk with these storms will be a damaging wind gust. I’ll keep a very close eye on that situation.

Showers come to an end Thursday morning and they may even contain a snowflake! We should see sunnier skies by afternoon. That sunshine stays with us through Friday, though Friday morning will be a bit frosty on the plateau.

Extended outlooks show another cold front coming early next week that will bring morning lows in the 20s.

Threat Outlook

Another storm system may bring severe storms to the area on Wednesday. That system will be followed by much colder air, which will include frosty mornings. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our area in the slight risk for severe storms for Wednesday evening.
