Local 5-Day Forecast for the Plateau

Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

We’ll be mindful of severe storms this afternoon and evening.

Much of our day will be cloudy, though we will likely see a few peaks of the sun. The more sun we see, the more unstable our atmosphere becomes. Hopefully we’ll see lots of clouds stick around. By this afternoon, we’ll be very mindful of any isolated storm that develops, as those will carry the greatest severe weather risks, including tornadoes. The risk for those to develop is low but it’s not zero.

By later in the evening, we’ll see a line of storms push across the plateau. It is unclear whether or not that line will be broken or solid. If solid, we have a greater risks for damaging straight-line winds. If broken, those individual cells would carry a higher risk for a tornado spin-up.

By 9:00 pm the threats should be over and I’ll let you know when they are. By the time this system moves out, we should see rainfall totals of 1-2 inches across the plateau, with locally higher amounts possible.

Showers end Thursday morning and there may even be a snowflake or two mixed in. No wintry impacts are expected. The rest of the day will be colder, breezy, and partly to mostly cloudy.

Friday is looing nice, albeit a bit windy! Those winds relax for Saturday, making for a very nice and mild day.

Another strong cold front approaches Sunday evening. Right now, severe storms do not look to be a threat. Rain showers with this system will likely turn to snow showers for Monday, with highs in the 30s and strong north winds.

Threat Outlook

We’ll be very mindful of any storm that may form ahead of the front Wednesday afternoon and evening. Then, we’ll be mindful of the storms associated with the cold front later into the evening. I’ll have more on these threats in tonight’s special udpate.

Another storm system may bring severe storms to the area on Wednesday. That system will be followed by colder air, which will include frosty mornings. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our area in the slight risk for severe storms for Wednesday.
