Issued Sunday morning, March 15, 2026

I will issue special updates, as needed, to keep you informed of the wind threat for today, the severe storm threat for tonight, and the snow threat for tomorrow. Can you tell it’s March? ha
Please prepare for power outages from this weather event. Depending on the severity of Sunday night’s squall line, some outages could be of the “long duration” variety. Let’s be prepared, just in case, especially since this cold front is bringing MUCH colder air to the region.

Proudly contracted with Crossville City Fire for important weather info. Thanks for trusting me with your weather since 2024, City Fire!

MM’s Forecast for the Plateau
Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!
This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!
Winds will be picking up today and especially tonight. Wind gusts to 45 mph could cause minor wind damage and sporadic power outages across the plateau. The strongest winds areawide will likely come just ahead of the cold frontal passage, when winds could gust to over 50 mph. Within the line of storms, likely arriving around midnight to 1:00 a.m., isolated wind gusts to 75 mph are possible. Where spin-up tornadoes may occur, winds would be even higher.
If you haven’t done so, you better secure lose outdoor objects, such as trash cans and trampolines.
There is potential for wide swaths of damaging straight-line winds tonight. Hopefully we don’t see that, but if we do, widespread power outages would also result. Depending on the severity of the winds, those could be long-duration power outages. Prepare, just in case.
There are still a couple of things that may help us out with the severe storms. First, there will be a “cap” located a few thousand feet above us. A “cap” is basically a layer of warm air aloft. If that cap holds, it would suppress storm activity. Another thing that may help us out is the timing of the front. Since it’s coming at a cooler time of the day, showers and storms may struggle to produce heavy enough precip to push gusty winds to the surface. The strongest winds will be just above the surface, at about 3-5,000 ft above us. Heavier rain can push those strongest down to the surface. If those showers stay lighter, they will have less potential to push those winds down to the surface.
By Monday, arctic air rushes in and rain changes to snow flurries and snow showers. While significant impacts are not expected, some minor impacts could result from heavier snow showers. Our chance for accumulation continues to increase.
Bitter cold air arrives Monday night, with lows in the mid teens. We recover a bit on Tuesday, before a big warming trend arrives Wednesday.
