Issued Sunday, March 15, at 5:00 p.m.

Beware the Ides of March, right? I’m not sure Shakespeare had our weather in mind when he wrote that, but it could certainly apply!
The winds continue to increase and they will continue to do so until the line of severe storms arrives later tonight. These winds will cause, at the very least, sporadic power outages on the plateau. The main line of storms later tonight may cause widespread power outages if it produces the widespread gusty winds it’s capable of producing.
The current WeatherTAP radar and watches/warnings shows are line becoming very active this evening. Tornado watches now extend into West TN. Numerous severe t-storm and tornado warnings have already been issued with the squall line and many more will be issued in the coming hours. In addition. very strong winds ahead of the line, like what we’ve seen all afternoon, are causing tree and powerline damage across the state (that’s those little blue symbols you see…damage reports). Notice how close the snow is to the line of storms on the radar! That’s wild.
Also, storms are expected to be worse across West TN than tehy will be here. Right now, they’re around 80°. We’re in the lower 70s here on the plateau. Still, there’s enough at play for us to be weather-aware, for sure.

We will track this line of storms as it comes across the state tonight. It will be approaching the plateau by midnight. The good news is that once this line passes, the severe weather threat ends.
Then, colder air starts filtering in….and fast. In fact, by Monday morning we’ll see snowflakes. I think we’ll get a bit of a break in morning precip before snow showers move in. Some of these snow showers could be intense, putting down rapid accumulation in a short period of time.
Are you convinced March is crazy yet? No? Well, we’ll be back in the 70s by Friday. lol

We’re on track for the hourly forecast! I think we’ll get a break in precip in the morning, followed by developing snow showers.

This may your last chance for a snow day! I know many districts are out for spring break, but if any of you in the Upper Cumberlands don’t have break this week, you just might get a snow day for Monday!
