Severe T-Storm Warning Cumberland County

A severe t-storm warning for Cumberland County has been issued until 1:45. As soon as this line passes, our threat ends.

Like all the other warnings over the past hour or so, this one is also your typical severe t-storm warning. Earlier this evening we had warnings for 70 mph winds. Now, the warnings are for 60 mph winds.

Winds are strong out there this evening…even winds outside of the squall line. This line also contains lots of lightning and loud thunder.

There are no indications of rotation, though we do remain under a tornado watch.

I’ll keep an eye on things.

Just in case you need to take cover, I’ll leave some safety tips below:

Your safe place is the lowest level of your home and in the middle of the home. The number one goal is to put as many walls as you can between the outside and you (if the bathtub doesn’t fit that criteria that’s not the place to be). A helmet for head protection is great! If there’s no helmet, use pillows. Keep your shoes on to prevent walking on broken glass. If in a mobile home or trailer, have a plan in place to get to better shelter if a warning is issued. Warnings last minutes and having a place to go in that short timeframe could make all the difference. In fact, simple things can make a big difference. There continues to be a super low threat for hail and flooding.

Make sure you have working flashlights in case the power goes out. As I’ve said all along, winds will continue to increase ahead of the line, leading to some (if not widespread) power outages across the region by the time the line has passed through.

Keep in mind that I have severe weather safety tips at https://meteorologistmark.com/severe-weather-safety/ With this being an overnight event, make sure friends and loved ones are aware of this threat before going to bed. Make sure weather radios are turned on and that the batteries are good.
