3:15 p.m. Sunday wx update

Showers and storms are firing off east of the plateau, over around Knoxville. This is a good indication that the bulk of the energy in the atmosphere has now shifted east and away from the plateau. That is good news! The Storm Prediction Center is holding off on issuing a tornado watch for our area and it now looks like conditions aren’t favorable enough to warrant a watch. That is also good news! Despite the sunshine destabilizing our atmosphere, storms have struggled to develop.

Earlier this morning I mentioned that drier air was going to be moving in and that should save us from severe storms this afternoon. Then, it looked as if sunshine would destabilize things enough to overcome that. It looks like the drier air is winning the battle and that should keep storms at bay the rest of the day.

Still, just keep a glance at the radar from time to time up until sunset for a pop up shower or storm.

I am seeing a line of showers develop just west of Nashville. I doubt these amount to much but we’ll keep an eye on them.
