MM News
The next MM kids class will be Thursday, February 17th at 4:30 at TCAT. Class is FREE. (Note: Class is full but there is a waiting list.) This hour-long class focuses on staying safe in high winds. With severe weather season upon us, it’s a good time to think about how to stay safe when bad storms threaten. We’ll review our severe weather safety tips and then the kids will construct a home they feel can stand up to Mother Nature’s worst. We’ll then put those homes to the test and discuss why certain ideas worked and why other ideas may fail. Come ready to learn and ready to build! All materials are supplied by MM.

MM News
I’m currently raising money for tablets for my kids classes at TCAT. I have applied for a grant, so stay tuned for how that goes. To date, I have raised $745 for those tablets. The total cost of the tablets is $2,580.00. I applied for $1,300 in grants from VEC. Stay tuned! And a HUGE thank you to all who have given and to all who subscribe to my newsletter! Those funds make these classes possible!
MM Talks

MeteorologistMarkPro
The centerpiece of this week’s newsletter features a story about why some folks think February 14th is the real Groundhog day! It’s quite fascinating and my grandfather was actually one who believed this. Find out why in this week’s newsletter!
Weekly newsletter subscription proceeds go toward supporting my education outreach, primarily including the monthly class for kids that I teach at TCAT. Try a free sample at https://meteorologistmarkpro.com/ and go to the “Free Sample” link. Subs are only $5 per month or discounted at $50 a year. Each week’s newsletter primarily focuses on the weather of the plateau. Find out why subscribers are raving on their new weather newsletters!
Keep in mind there is a monthly newsletter for kids for FREE at https://meteorologistmarkpro.com/newsletter-for-kids/! Starting this month, there will be two newsletters for the kids each month, with one being issued at the beginning of the month and the other in the middle. One newsletter is focused on space and the other on weather.
Drought Data
The data cutoff for Drought Monitor maps is each Tuesday at 7 a.m. The maps, which are based on analysis of the data, are released each Thursday at 7:30 a.m. This week’s latest map is seen below.
On Tuesday, the plateau had a deficit in rainfall for the first time this year. That has already changed and after today we won’t worry about rainfall deficits again for a very long time.

Saving our Hardwoods
To learn more about the fight to save the hardwoods from being deforested on Catoosa, please see https://meteorologistmark.com/save-the-hardwoods/. Legislation is being considered that would prevent TWRA from directly profiting from the timber cutting, which would likely discourage them from further deforesting. Please help us fight to save our hardwoods for present and future generations.
A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, at 6:00 pm at the Community Complex. Marvin Bullock from the White County Chamber of Commerce will share his experience with fighting the cutting on the Bridgestone-Firestone Wilderness area of White County and offer advice on what we can do to fight clear cutting on Catoosa. Representatives from the TWRA have also been invited.
Creative Compassion
Keep in mind that Creative is ready to help with low-housing needs as best we can. We can help you secure a mortgage and we can help with home repairs. We even have assistance available to help with utility bills and/or rent. Please see our website for more info at https://ccihomes.org/ and to check out our new newsletter.
