Active Weather Advisories & Statements

Tuesday will be a weather-aware day for strong/severe storms and heavy rainfall

Multiple rounds of storms are expected throughout the day

Each round will be monitored as it moves our way during the day & night

The threat will likely continue after dark

Hazards

My concerns have increased for both tornadoes and straight-line winds. The hollow arrows represent my level of concern in this morning’s forecast for Tuesday. The filled-in arrows are my current concerns for Tuesday.

IF we get any storms tonight, they could contain gusty winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall. Storm tonight are not expected to be severe.

Forecast Discussion & Concerns

A severe weather outbreak is currently underway across the Lower Mississippi River Valley. We will track that threat eastward over the next 24-36 hours. The SPC is now highlighting our area in the slight risk for severe storms for Tuesday. The slight risk is level 2 out of the 5 severe weather threat levels.

The overall threat is low, but certainly not zero. That threat continues AFTER DARK ON TUESDAY.

Heavy rainfall may lead to localized flash flooding.

A “messy” storm mode, along with stronger storms in Alabama, may keep our storms less severe. I’ll monitor that closely.

Storm Preparation

Review your severe weather safety plan now. I have a link with info on that at https://meteorologistmark.com/severe-weather-safety/

If you got a weather radio for Christmas I have info on those at https://meteorologistmark.com/noaa-weather-radio/

I’ve been asked many times for a good weather app. While several Knoxville TV stations have good ones, you should first download our local EMA’s app! Remember to have multiple ways to get warnings.

Interesting Info

The record high for today was 61 degrees and we broke that record. Record warmth in January is often a recipe for trouble with severe storms.

Stay Tuned

Stay tuned for updates throughout the day Tuesday. I’ll be watching it all very closely.
