The NWS Nashville is planning to issue a winter weather advisory for the Cumberland Plateau for late tonight and Friday. Snowfall accumulations around an inch are expected, with areas along the western edge of the plateau and across northern Fentress county possibly getting as much as 2 inches.
The severe threat continues to decrease for today. The Storm Prediction Center kept us in the slight risk a their 11:00 a.m. update, but I’m honestly not sure why. Rain and gusty winds will still be with us throughout the day, so be mindful of that. Those gusts could hit 35 mph, which could be enough to cause sporadic power outages.
The map below shows active watches and warnings. We have a severe t-storm watch to our north and a tornado watch to our south. We’ve found ourselves right in the middle with just wind, rain, and lightning. The pink counties on the TN and NC border are highlighted for wintere storm warnings for tonight, with up to 9″ of snow expected there.
I’ll keep watching it all but the severe threat is diminishing. It’s about time to turn our thoughts to snow! I’ll have more on that in a future update. Be safe if you’re out driving today!
