1960- A major winter storm strikes Middle Tennessee. Some snowfall totals include Crossville, with 8½”, Clarksville, 8″, Springfield, 7.8″, Cookeville, 7½”, and Nashville, 5½”.
1956 – A whopping 367 inches of snow was measured on the ground at the Rainier Paradise Ranger Station in Washington. The snow depth was a state record and the second highest total of record for the continental U.S.
1961 – Soviet flight Sputnik 9 carries and returns from orbit a dog named Chernushka (Blackie), frogs and a guinea pig.
