Good afternoon, everyone! I wanted to give a quick update on the severe weather threat for this afternoon and evening. Thus far, the bulk of the energy with this system seems to be focusing on eastern Kentucky, where numerous warnings are in effect. Another area of concentrated storm activity is east of Knoxville, where more warnings are being issued.
The Storm Prediction Center just noted that while much of the severe weather is in Kentucky this afternoon, some of the storms in southern Kentucky could slip southeast later this afternoon and intensify in our neck of the woods. If you have plans this evening, keep a close eye on the radar. Storms can intensify rapidly in this airmass.
Let’s stay weather aware through at least 7:00 pm. Any storm that forms in this warm and humid airmass will be capable of producing heavy rainfall, gusty winds, hail, and cloud-to-ground lightning.
I’ll keep an eye on things!
