MM’s Local Weather Concerns
Drought conditions continue
Heightened wildfire danger likely Monday-Tuesday
MM Forecast Summary
Clouds and sun will share the sky today and tomorrow, before a strong cold front arrives Sunday. That front will bring scattered showers and windy conditions to the area. Rainfall amounts will be on the light side, averaging around 1/10 of an inch, though isolated areas could pick up 2/10 of an inch. That front’s biggest impact will be much colder and drier air (get out the lotion!) that will arrive for the start of the work week. In fact, this air will likely be the coldest we’ve seen this season. Winds will also be gusty, making it feel much colder. Wind gusts from Sunday to Monday should be in the 20-25 mph range. Those gusty winds, combined with low humidity, will bring an elevated wildfire danger for both Monday and Tuesday.

Drought Monitor
The Drought Monitor is updated each Thursday. The map below was updated on Thursday, November 23. This week’s rain helped, but we will likely remain in drought conditions for many weeks to come.

48-Hour Jetstream Forecast
Jet streams are relatively narrow bands of strong wind in the upper levels (~30,000 feet) of the atmosphere. Jet streams follow the boundaries between hot and cold air. Brighter reds/purples indicate faster winds. The map begins this morning at 7:00 and moves in six-hour increments.
FYI, if you notice that little kink in the lines over our region for this morning you might be interested to know that’s what we call a “shortwave trough.” Those are disturbances within the jet stream flow that can lead to cloudiness. They can also lead to precip if conditions are right.
