A Sunny & Windy Sunday
A nice Sunday is in store for the plateau, though it will be windy. Hold onto your hats if you’re out and about. Today will be the warmest day the week ahead, by far. That wind is blowing in a dry cold front late tonight that could squeeze out a few flurries tonight and in the morning across the plateau. No impacts are expected. It will be noticeably colder for the first day of the new year.
Temps slowly rebound for Tueday, before another system throws some clouds our way. That system is a weak area of low pressure along the northern Gulf Coast. It may send some light precip our way that could be a mix of rain and snow. I’m not expecting any impacts, but I’ll keep an eye on it.
Sunshine returns for Thursday and that dry weather will persist through Friday. Another storm system is worth watching for Friday night into the weekend. Stay tuned.

1929 – Greenland Ranch, in Death Valley, California, went the entire year without measurable precipitation.
1963 – A snowstorm struck the Deep South. Meridian, Mississippi, received 15 inches of snow, 10.5 inches blanketed Bay St Louis Mississippi, and 4.5 inches fell at New Orleans, Louisiana. Freezing temperatures then prevailed for New Year’s Day.
2018- Crossville ends the year with a total of 74.88″ of precipitation — its wettest year ever recorded.

The jetstream is a “river of wind” found at about 30,000 feet. The brighter reds and whites represent the fastest winds. There are two main jetstreams to watch this time of year. There’s the polar jet to the north and the subtropical jet to the south. This map begins this morning at 6:00 a.m. and moves in six-hour increments.

Percent of Tennessee in drought conditions remains at 93%. However, the percentage of the state in extreme drought rose from 29% to 47%. Drought conditions continue to worsen.
