Update

I’m feeling better about the severe t-storm threat, folks. The line has been cycling…with a round of warnings, followed by just heavy rain and gusty winds….followed by another round of warnings. The good news? The round of warnings cycle is waning. There haven’t been any warnings for some time now and it’s moving through Nashville, so you know the NWS would be highly vigilant of any warnings for Nashville (esp on a Saturday evening). Right now, it’s just a line of heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds. I’ve noticed that lightning strikes are even starting to drop off.

So, I hope this calms those whose nerves are on edge tonight. Several of you who were in the tornado on the 6th have reached out to me. The good thing abou this is that it’s a squall that will pass through quickly.

The line could still produce some isolated warnings as it moves our way. I’ll keep an eye on that.

Meanwhile, we still have these very rowdy southerly winds that are really starting to pick up. These winds, whether within a storm or not, could gust to 50 mph. That’s a concern for power outages, esp if trees start to fall in these saturated soils. Thankfully, we don’t have leaves on the trees or they would be even more susceptible to falling.

So, if you decide to go to bed make sure your weather radio is on and you have your phone weather apps set to where they will wake you up (and not on silent).

I’m still tracking it all and I’ll let you know if there’s anything you need to know about. The next update will come within the hour, unless an earlier update is needed.

My concern remains elevated because of strong southerly winds that could cause power outages and even minor structural damage. Gusts to 50 mph are possible all night and into the morning hours of Sunday. A wind advisory remains in effect until noon Sunday.

One of the reasons the straight-line wind threat is so high is because of the strong winds we’ll see even outside of storms. Any of these winds could cause trees to fall in our saturated soils.
