Update
The tornado watch for Middle TN was allowed to expire at 1:00 a.m. A new watch was issued to our south that includes the Chattanooga area.
Now, a new tornado warning has been issued for McMinnville and Spencer to our southwest. This is likely a brief spinup but those in the warning need to seek shelter. The line has become more active over the past hour and is trying to extend north toward southern Cumberland County. I’ll track this closely over the next hour. That warning for McMinnville expires at 1:45 a.m.

My concern remains elevated because of strong southerly winds that could cause power outages and even minor structural damage. Gusts to 50 mph are possible all night and into the morning hours of Sunday. A wind advisory remains in effect until noon Sunday.

One of the reasons the straight-line wind threat is so high is because of the strong winds we’ll see even outside of storms. Any of these winds could cause trees to fall in our saturated soils.
