Tropical Trouble

A new area to watch has emerged in the southwest Gulf of Mexico. That could become a tropical depression or storm as it moves across the waters tomorrow and Friday.

Tropical Storm Erin is still expected to become a hurricane this week. The storm is expected to turn out to sea before directly impacting the mainland U.S. We’ll continue to monitor that closely!

Special Wed Morning Wx Statement

Update Issued Wed., August 13, at 6:50 am

We have some very heavy rainfall moving in across parts of the plateau this Wednesday morning. Be careful on that morning commute. A flood watch is in effect and flood or flash flood warnings are possible with any activity today. Remember to never drive across flooded roadways, especially if you can see that the water is moving. Also, be very careful if you encounter heavy rain in road construction zones. Those areas can be especially dangerous.

You all be safe. I’ll have your full forecast out soon.

Tuesday Lunchtime Forecast Update

Update Issued August 12, at 10:50 am

Radar continues to show more showers and thundershowers developing to our south and moving northward. Therefore, showers and t-showers will be with us throughout the day. I had forecast rain chances of 70% for today but that needs to be adjusted to 90%.

Any storm should stay below severe limits. Just keep in mind that heavy downpours are possible and those can always lead to localized flash flooding. Be careful on wet roadways, especially near construction sites.

You all take care!

Tropical Trouble

All eyes are on Tropical Storm Erin as that storm makes its way across the Atlantic. Erin is expected to become the first hurricane of the season by Wednesday night. The storm will then likely reach cat 3 status, which is considered a major hurricane, by Saturday. It is too early to know what, if any, impacts this storm will have to the mainland of the U.S. Current guidance strongly suggests the storm will turn out to sea before impacting the mainland. I’ll keep an eye on it!
