At 8:25, storms are in a generally weakening trend on radar. Even the Storm Prediction Center is saying that they don’t expect to expand the severe t-storm watch farther east, as they expect storms to continue to weaken into the evening. This is great news!
Yes, we could still see some warnings and you all in Fentress, Pickett, and Overton counties are under severe t-storm warnings now. Northern Putnam is, as well, including Algood. However, even these storms have shown weakening hail cores, especially from earlier. At one point, a hail core near Gainsboro showed 1.75″ hail! That has since weakened tremendously.
Radar shows that outflow boundaries have raced ahead of the storms, which usually leads to weakening. It certainly diminishes any tornado threat that was present.
The storms in southern Middle TN that were concerning have really struggled and will not evolve into the damaging wind threat it was feared they would become. Again, that’s more good news.
So, I will continue to monitor things as we go through the evening. More warnings may come from some of these cells but I don’t foresee the risk that earlier storms possessed.
I’ll keep an eye on it for ya! Also, my weather radio hasn’t been working since Overton County had a warning. I hope no one else is having issues with theirs.
We remain under a severe t-storm watch until midnight.
