Severe Weather Update: Friday Morning Risks

Issued the afternoon of January 8, 2026

A flood watch is in effect for Friday and Saturday morning. Be especially careful in road construction areas that may have poor drainage.

This special update is to reiterate my morning forecast update concerning the timing of Friday’s storms. Originally, it had looked like Friday evening would pose the greatest risk for severe weather. While there will still be a threat Friday evening, the greater threat looks to come Friday morning. A vigorous disturbance will move into the area in the morning and lead to widespread rain and storms. Some of those storms could be strong or even severe.

Heavy rain will be a threat through Saturday, with some of the highest potential for flooding coming later Friday night and Saturday morning.

The good news is that the morning activity should stablize us for the rest of the day, minimizing additional threats. However, I’ll monitor that closely.

I will have a more in-depth update coming later this evening around 8:00 pm to give you all the latest. I just wanted to emphasize with this update that Friday morning could be a bumpy ride for us.
