Sunday Evening Weather Update

Monday’s weather map shows another blast of cold air coming our way for Monday evening. This frontal passage will be a dry one. This will send overnight lows Monday night into the 7-10 degree range across the plateau. Make sure your pipes are ready, make sure elderly and/or disabled neighbors are ready, and make sure the outdoor pets have a warm, dry place that is out of the wind so they can stay warm.
Monday’s weather map can be seen below, showing that cold front moving through. It will reach our area in the afternoon.

The Weichert hourly weather for tomorrow shows those bitter cold temps. We may briefly climb above freezing on Tuesday but a better warmup will get us into the 40s on Wednesday.

Speaking of Wednesday….
Temps will warm on Wednesday as winds switch to the south. Those winds are in advance of our next storm system coming in Wednesday night. This one is very similar to the one we had Friday night, where we had light rain that changed to snow overnight. Wednesday night’s event may play out very similarily.

Looking at the latest data, a half inch of snow might be the best we can hope for. I’ll keep a close eye on that.

I went ahead and made an hourly forecast for Wednesday through Thursday morning. This will be edited as we get closer to to time but this should give you a really good idea of what I’m expecting. This almost feels like deja vu from Friday night’s event. IF temps drop to freezing sooner, accumulation will be more likely (just like what we had Friday night).

There are too many questions still at play for me to make a snow day forecast. I’ll likely make a forecast for this in tomorrow morning’s update.

Then, there’s the weekend forecast….
This coming weekend’s system may be the best chance we’ve had yet for snow. This time last week I was eyeing this weekend for possible snow. I knew there would be snow in the South and, sure enough, parts of the Deep South got hit today. Next weekend may be a better opportunity for us, but it’s too early to know specific details (as you all know).
Some interesting things to point out is how similar both the GFS and Eurpean models are in depicting wintry mischief for our area. The European leans more toward ice, while the GFS leans more toward snow. Since we’re this far out in time from the weekend, this means the models are uncertain on precip type, meaning this could be ice or snow (and don’t forget the possibility of cold rain….ugh… lol).

The next few days are quiet, before things get interesting Wednesday night and again over the weekend.

And the changes are sure to stir up weather-related aches and pains. But, enjoy the next couple of days!

Just be thinking about what you’d do to get ready for a possible winter storm, just in case that comes together for next weekend. Get ready before everyone else does!
Don’t forget that for your generator needs Stubbs Generators can take care of ya! And they’re locally owned and operated (https://stubbsgenerators.com/)
I’ll be tracking it all and keep you updated! I’m so honored to be your trusted meteorologist for the Cumberland Plateau! Thank you!
