Tracking a line of Strong/Severe Storms
A line of storms continues to make its way across western Middle TN. The line will arrive here and make its way across the plateau between 4:00-6:00. Damaging winds are the main threat. For this update, I have reduced the tornado threat. It remains low, but not zero.
Our environment today is more unstable than it was for Saturday, so I think the risk for severe storms is higher than it was then. However, wind profiles from the surface to the tops of the thunderstorm clouds show southwest winds dominating (much like Saturday’s winds were). To get tornadoes, we’d need winds to change direction with height, which we just don’t have today.
Does that mean we can’t have a tornado? No. It just means that if we do we get one it would tend to be brief…a quick spin-up, as we call them. Again, the main threat is a damaging wind gust and hail. There have been some reports of nearly one inch diameter hail with storms near Nashville. There’s also been some reports of damaging wind gusts knocking down some trees and powerlines. So far, I haven’t seen anything too damaging.

For this update, I have reduced the tornado threat. I have also reduced the threat timeframe and now have it ending by 7:00. I’ll let you know when the threat is over. I’ll keep an eye on things!

The hourly forecast is actually still on track! I only made a couple of tweaks to it.
