Special Tues Night Update for Tropical Depression

Good evening, folks! I just wanted to give a quick update on the newly-formed tropical depression in the Gulf. This system will eventually become a tropical storm and then a hurricane. In fact, this will be the first hurricane of the 2026 season. This is the latest we have ever gone without a hurricane in the Gulf or Atlantic.

The track forecast below is the first for this depression from the National Hurricane Center. There will be some adjustments to this, so stay tuned. However, models have been consistent and agreeable on where they think this system will go.

The track below shows the forecast for where the center will go. Impacts reach far out from the center. With this system, those impacts will reach out farther east from the center than they will to the west due to the lopsided nature of the storm.

The current forecast calls for it to become a cat 2, with winds up to 100 mph. The National Hurricane Center warns that the system could become stronger than that.

Anyone with interests along the Gulf Coast from New Orleans to Panama City needs to monitor this closely. If you have vacation plans to those areas you need to make sure you’re monitoring what emergency management agencies in the area you are headed to are saying. A Google search will likely help you out with that.

Meanwhile, I’ll keep a close eye on the possible impacts for the plateau from all of this! I’ll also have a full and fresh update to the forecast in the morning. You all take care and I’ll keep you posted!

An upper level disturbance will keep up some sinus and asthma issues on Wednesday, while pressure changes from Isaias in the Gulf will start kicking up some troubles by Friday (and especially Saturday).
