MM’s Thurs 5-Day: Watching for Orionids

Today is Thursday, October 22, 2026

Look for the Orionid Meteor Shower tonight! Look southeast anytime after dark. I looked for about 15 minutes last night and saw one. It was a good one, though! (ha) There could be as many as 20 meteors an hour. Even if you don’t see a meteor, it’s just a good time to stargaze!

Also, the drought monitor has updated this monitor. Please scroll down for more info on that.

MM’s Wx Analysis

It’s another active weather day in the Southwest U.S.! Flash flooding and severe storms will once again threaten that area. Unsettled weather has overspread the western U.S., with mainly showers. However, higher elevation snow is possible in the Rockies.

Meanwhile, Subtropical Josphine formed in the Atlantic yesterday. It’s headed out to sea, so the only impact to the East Coast will be rough surf.

Less than 1% of the country has snow cover.
