Wed Afternoon Special Wx Update

Special weather update issued Wednesday afternoon, January 18, 2023

For the risk of strong winds.

Advisories

The National Weather Service in Nashville has issued a wind advisory for tonight and tomorrow. The advisory is for southerly winds that could gust to 45 mph. That advisory is in effect from 7:00 pm tonight to 6:00 am Thursday.

Secure any loose outdoor items. Winds of this nature could lead to sporadic power outages and could cause shallow-rooted trees to fall, especially with our wet soils.

Weather-Aware Times

Tonight

We will need to be weather-aware tonight for strong southerly winds. There is also a slim chance for a severe t-storm. With winds already gusting over 40 mph, it wouldn’t take much of a storm to cause winds to gust to severe criteria (58 mph). The risk for a tornado is very low.

This radar model runs from midnight tonight to 7:00 am Thursday morning. This is a model, so keep in mind times may vary by an hour or two. Nevertheless, the trend continues to be for a narrow line of rain and storms that could produce very gusty winds and brief heavy downpours.
