Weather Aware Times
Wind Advisory Tonight & Wednesday
Winds tonight could gust to over 55 mph, which will likely cause disruptions to power across the plateau. Saturated grounds could easily cause shallow-rooted trees to fall. Secure any outdoor loose items. Park vehicles away from trees with limbs that might fall.
Wednesday Night & Thursday
Periods of light snow are likely Wednesday night through Thursday night. Light accumulation looks likely. As with past “northwest flow” snow events this season, the favored areas for accumulation will be on the western edge of the plateau. Guidance is trending upward (even if slightly) with snowfall amounts. I will continue to monitor this closely.
Winds will be increasing as we go through the night and could even become damaging, with winds gusts to 55 mph possible. Be sure and secure all outdoor loose objects and make sure your car is parked away from anything that could break free in the wind and fall on your vehicle. Prepare for power outages, as winds of this nature often lead to scattered outages.
You can keep up with power outages at https://poweroutage.us/area/state/tennessee Just be sure to refresh the page for updates. I’ve seen some outages in West Tennessee this evening.
The bulk of the rain moves out in the morning. Winds will continue to be gusty on Wednesday and temps will begin to fall by lunch time. As colder air moves in, rain showers will turn to snow showers. Look for that transition to occur shortly after sunset. Snow showers will continue into the night and into Thursday.
Hourly Wind Forecast
I shared this earlier on Facebook and it remains the forecast. Winds will increase quickly tonight, especially after 9:00 pm.
Hourly Temp & Precip Forecast
8:00 p.m. tonight to noon Wednesday
This particular model shows what I think will happen. This shows snowfall accumulation from 6:00 pm Wednesday to noon on Thursday. This has snow starting a bit later than I currently think it will, but it still does a great job showing that favored western edge of the plateau getting the best chance for accumulating snowfall.
Chance for a Snow Day
The chance for a snow day on Thursday has been increased from 50% to 60%. Stay tuned for updates!
