Wind advisory in effect for today and tonight for wind gusts of 40-45 mph. Make sure all outdoor loose objects are secure. Be careful when driving high-profile vehicles. Sporadic power outages are possible.
Severe Weather Awareness Week
Wednesday’s topic is tornado safety. Remember to have a NOAA weather radio, a helmet to protect the head from flying debris, and to wear your shoes to avoid walking on broken glass in bare feet. Know where your safe place is…lowest level of the home and away from windows. Abandon mobile homes for more substantial shelter (if that’s a neighbor just let them know you may be coming over for a few minutes if a warning is issued). Being prepared means you’ll be less scared.
Statewide tornado drills will be conducted across the nation today.

Weather Summary
The main story this week will be the wind today and tonight. A wind advisory is in effect for wind gusts over 40 mph. Those winds will stay elevated through Thursday, though they will likely fall below advisory criteria (40+ gusts) by Thursday morning.
The whole week looks unsettled, with a better chance for showers entering the picture Wednesday night, as a disturbance slides through.
Thursday looks to be the warmest day of the week, with highs reaching into the mid to upper 70s. A cool front brings a slight chance for showers on Friday and a better chance for showers Friday night. Saturday is looking like the wettest day of the 5-day forecast.
Another stronger storm system arrives on Monday and that could carry the risk for some strong storms. I’ll keep a close eye on that. Right now, the Storm Prediction Center is not highlighting our area in that threat, though they did mention our area in their morning discussion today and are considering adding a threat area.
There continues to be no cold air in sight.

5-Day Total Precip Forecast
Total precip for this week is expected to stay in the 1/2 to 1 inch range across our area.

Weather Statistics

On This Day
1773 – The memorable “Cold Sabbath” in New England history. Many persons froze extremities while going to church.
1632 – Galileo’s book “Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems” is published comparing the Copernican and Ptolemaic systems and whether the Earth orbits the sun. (FYI, Capernicus first realized the earth orbited the sun in 1543, but it took a century for that idea to be widely accepted! Science requires patience (ha).
