Severe Weather Awareness Week

Today’s topic is weather radios. These radios can provide life-saving warnings in the middle of the night, when most of our severe storms threaten our area. I have a link on my website for information on programming those radios and which one I most recommend. Find that link at https://meteorologistmark.com/noaa-weather-radio/

EMA director Travis Cole and I will be programming weather radios at Twister movie night at the Palace Saturday night. I’ll also be programming those at Grinder Coffee House on Saturday, March 4, from 11:00-1:00. Come out and get that radio programmed or just chat! I’ll see ya there!

Twister

Severe Weather Awareness Week ends with the showing of Twister on the big screen at the Palace Theatre. Come out and join us on Saturday, February 25th at 7:00 pm. Tickets are only $5 per person and food and drink specials are available, including the F-5 special that gets you candy+popcorn+drink for only $5!

More than 140 tickets have now sold!

Money raised from tickets sales and sponsorships goes to help low-income folks purchase a weather radio. Get your tickets on the Palace Theatre website at https://crossvilletn.gov/department/palace-theatre/ or purchase them at the door that evening. Tickets are selling fast! We’ll see ya there!

MM’s 24-Hour Temp & Precip Forecast

Hourly forecast beginning at 11:00 a.m. today.

Weather Summary

While we will have some isolated showers areound today, the next best chance for rain comes Saturday, when much of the plateau should pick up some rainfall. Those rain chances fall off for Sunday, before picking back up Monday with a more powerful storm system.

The storm system that will bring us rain and storms on Monday will likely produce significant severe weather across the southern plains. Those big storms will weaken as they move east, but we may still have a risk for a strong or even severe storm from that system.

The Storm Prediction Center is now highlighting our area in a low-end threat for severe storms for Monday. I’ll monitor that closely.

There continues to be no significant cold air in sight.

Weather Statistics

For the period of midnight to midnight.
