2:55 Friday Wx Update

This morning’s storms were rough, but there’s potential for even stronger storms between now and Sunday.

The sun is heating things up and it’s getting humid! That may be setting the stage for another intense cluster of storms later this evening. The area to watch over the coming hours is southern Illinois and western Kentucky. A cluster of storms is expected to develop there by 6:00 pm and then race eastward toward us. Those storms could pack a punch.

The Storm Prediction Center has circled the area in red that is being monitored at this hour. Whatever develops there will push our way overnight. Severe thunderstorm watches are likely for both the area circled in red and across Tennessee as we go through the evening hours.

It’s difficult to say just when these storms would affect us, since they haven’t developed yet, but I would say that the greatest threat timeframe would be between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Stay tuned for changes to that, but I feel confident in that threat timeframe.

If you know anyone who is camping or doing anything outdoors tonight, please make sure they know about this storm threat. Wind gusts of 70+ mph are always possible with these systems. That’s not to mention the frequent lightning and torrential rainfall.

We’re looking fine for the rest of the evening, though it is hot and humid. I’ll keep a close eye on these storms that may threaten us later on.

You all take care!
