Monday Afternoon Wx Update

Good afternoon, folks! Many of you have asked me about the haze. This is once again due to smoke and humidity combining and create very poor visibility of our skies. There are some air quality alerts in the region but Cumberland and Fentress Counties have not been added to those. That could change, so if your respiratory system is especially sensitive to haze, you might plan to be indoors during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Some of you have asked about the forecast, as well. You’re liable to see conflicting forecasts for the first half of this week. That’s because models do NOT handle northwest flow events well at all. So, apps that base their forecast on models (with no human input) are not to be trusted. Forecasters who only rely on models are liable to be wrong a few times this week too. (ha)

Just keep an eye on the radar if you have outdoor plans this week. If you see a complex of storms in Illinois, Missouri, or Kentucky moving this way just know that it could easily hold together in this environment.

I’ll keep a close eye on things and do my best to let you know of any rough storms coming our way. We are in or near a risk area for strong to severe storms each day. The risk is low, but it’s certainly not zero.
