UPDATE
Things looking better. The tornado watch has been cancelled west of Putnam County. You folks in Overton County will likely be dropped soon, as well as you all in Fentress (Pickett has already been dropped).
Strong storms will soon be moving through northern Cumberland Co but they are not severe (just loud with thunder!).
The storm that I’ve tracked all the way across Middle TN is continuing to weaken. The hail has dropped from 1″ to 0.75″ and the gustiest of winds with that storm should stay just south of Cumberland County. The newest severe t-storm warning (not tornado warning…yay!) does not include Cumberland County (though it is really close to the southern border). I can’t find any rotation with that storm now.
FYI, strong gusty winds to 50 mph are being reported in some locations in Middle TN behind this line. Sometimes that happens in these scenarios (it’s related to wind shear). Just be aware of that possibility. That’s called a rear inflow jet, in case you’re wondering.
A tornado watch is in effect until 3:00 a.m. for the Cumberland Plateau.
Stay tuned for updates through the night.
