A Heartfelt Thank You

Thank You

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for following my site or for downloading the app. I’ve been getting messages all morning from folks asking about things that I’ve discussed, sometimes probably too much (lol!), on this app and site. I thank you for trusting me with your weather. YOU weren’t surprised that we got a little snow this morning. YOU weren’t surprised that roads were hazardous this morning. YOU know why the snow doesn’t show up on radar sometimes. YOU know I didn’t forecast two feet of snow for this event. You also know I started talking about the growing threat for ice on the weekend by Wednesday.

You’ve learned about “warm noses”, the importance of the track of the low, how higher elevations can be warmer than lower elevations, phase changes of precip, cold air density/behavior in valleys, and even more! ha I love not only talking about the forecast but finding moments where I can even teach some meteorology. That’s one of the main reasons I earned my degrees in meteorology! I love to teach and I hope that shows!

Weather is fascinating and these winter storms are so incredibly complex and intriguing! This one was honestly no different but the rampant spread of misinformation on social media, along with phone apps that often use raw and unedited model data, created incredible communication challenges. In the end, I did what I always do…ignored the noise of social media and focused on my forecast for the app, site, and YouTube channel.

Thank you for listening…..actually listening…to my forecast. I’m getting so many messages this morning that are questions I’ve answered so many times already. I’m not perfect, but I work so incredibly hard to get you the best forecast for the Cumberland Plateau region. It’s my passion and it’s what I love!

When this all started in the summer of 2017, I was so happy to have 1,700 views. That’s a lot of views! lol Flash forward to today and I’ve had 121,350 views just this month! I am blessed beyond belief.

In the coming months, I hope to share more about what I learn in my new research position at Tennessee Tech. What a fascinating new job I have there! I even get to work with the indigenous (Cherokee) of the southern Appalachians to learn even more about our past weather! I can’t wait to share my journey with you!

Finally, I also thank my sponsors and my contract with Crossville City Fire. Their support keeps this app and site free for everyone to use. Plus, they keep the space camp and storm chase camps free for the kids who take those this summer. I’m already gearing up for those! Those will be the first two weeks of June again at Roane State in Crossville. Stay tuned for sign-up info.

If you’re reading this and you’re not a follow of the website or you haven’t downloaded the app, please do so. Having updated forecast is so incredibly important on the plateau, especially when the spring severe weather season gets going. Find that app for free in your app store.

In case you missed it on Facebook, I have finally converted my storage building into my very own office/library. I love it. It took a lot of patience and hard work to see it through but, with the help of my brother Kevin, it all came to be!

My sign for the door turned out so good!
There’ll be lots of coffee drank from here! ha
My desk area. I’m ready to record some podcasts!
I love my library wall. Finally a place for my books!
And lots of storage and room for my space and storm chase camp stuff!

Again, thank YOU! I appreciate you all more than you’ll ever know!

  1. Love your office. Looks so warm, cozy and inviting. I did notice a couple of days before the storm that we had a mackerel shy two days in a row. That always means rain or moisture is on it’s way. Many years ago, back in the early 60s’, I noticed a big ring around the moon with 7 stars inside of the ring. I read or heard somewhere that the number of rings was how many days away a big storm was going to hit. I marked in on my little calendar at work and mentioned it to a couple of my co-workers, and then forgot about it. A week later, a northeasterner hit us on the eastern tip of Long Island, NY. A beautiful mansion on the beach was badly damaged from the ocean. And then I noticed my calendar and saw I had hit the nail on the head.

  2. Congrats on the new position and THANKS for keeping us informed with specific and accurate weather for us!

    Holly H
