5:38 Update: After a brief lull, radar is getting active again. You folks in Scott County (Oneida) have a severe storm tracking your way out of Kentucky. Keep an eye on that. There’s another storm that just developed in southwest Fentress County. That’s one to watch, too, as it tracks southward.

Well, it’s been an active afternoon of radar watching! Some of you have had strong storms, while others haven’t had a drop of rain. Such is the nature of scattered showers and storms. I had one report of nearly 1.5 inches of rain.

As we go through the rest of the afternoon, shower and t-storm chances will continue. Right now, the focus is south of Cumberland County stretching from McMinnville to Pikeville and even up toward Spring City. I’ve circled what I’m talking about on the image below. We still have another heavy shower north of Fairfield Glade, as well. Again, we could see anything pop up at any time as we go through the rest of the afternoon. If you have outdoor plans, keep an eye on the sky and the radar.

We’ll be safe and stay weather aware the rest of the day. There are uncertainties concerning a complex of storms moving in from the northwest. The favored mode of t-storm development thus far today has been to fire off scattered storms throughout the afternoon, rather than create a new complex of storms. What we’ve mainly seen today has been the tail end of a complex of storms that impacted the Smokies earlier today. We’ve been on the tailend of new development all afternoon.

The Storm Prediction Center is monitoring all of this and they have stated that they don’t think a watch will be necessary today but they are keeping an eye on things. The area of greatest interest to us for the rest of the day will be whatever develops in Kentucky and pushes our way this evening. I’ll be watching that very closely. There are already new severe storm warnings mvoing into northern Kentucky right now.

Again, if you have outdoor plans just keep an eye on the weather and make sure you have good shelter from any storm that may impact you. As long as you do that, you should be fine!

My level of concern has improved just a bit!
