Well folks, we’re less than 24 hours into the official start of the 2020 hurricane season and the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is already concerned with an area of low pressure in the southern Gulf of Mexico. The NHC just issued a special statement saying they will begin issuing advisories for newly-developed tropical depression #3 at the 4:00 CDT update. Should the system become a named tropical storm, it will be Cristobal.
I’ll have more information on this system later this evening in a short video update, as well as a look at the 2020 hurricane season that is before us.
On the map below, Tropical Depression 3 can be found in the very southern end of the Gulf (red X). The system is expected to track northward in the coming days.
