Hay Weather Forecast

Today’s Stats

Almanac for Yesterday

On This Day in Wx History

1950 – A smoke pall from western Canada forest fires covered much of the eastern US. Daylight was reduced to nighttime darkness in parts of the Northeast. The color of the sun varied from pink to purple, blue, or lavender. Yellow to grey-tan was common.

1972 – Lightning struck a man near Waldport, Oregon, who just happened to be carrying thirty-five pieces of dynamite.

Yesterday’s National Temperature Extremes

High:  108° at Death Valley, California

Low:   19° at Peter Sinks, Utah

Tropics

We now have Hurricane Sam. The storm rapidly intensified overnight from barely being a tropical storm to now being a hurricane. The storm continues to rapidly intensify and is expected to become a major hurricane over the weekend (if not tonight!). Right now, maximum intensity is forecast at cat 4, though it’s not impossible that Sam will make a run for cat 5 status. The storm is not a threat to the US and is currently not expected to be a threat for the mainland. That will need to be watched, of course. Models currently show a threat to Bermuda next week.

Sun & Moon

Today’s Tennessee Weather

The week is ending with fantastic weather! After some morning fog burns off, look for abundant sunshine and afternoon highs in the low to mid 70s. It will be a bit warmer along the Mississippi River, with highs reaching near 80 degrees. It’s a beautiful day to get outside!

Tonight’s Tennessee Weather

Under clear to partly cloudy skies, overnight lows will fall into the low to mid 50s across the state.

Weekend Tennessee Weather

The pattern of warm afternoons and crisp, cool nights continues right on through the weekend! Expect partly to mostly sunny skies and afternoon highs near 80 degrees for West Tennessee, with low to mid 70s expected for much of Middle and East Tennessee. Overnight lows will fall into the 50s. Get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather if you can!

Special Note

My mentee with Kids on the Rise lost his grandmother last weekend to covid. We will be honoring her life on Saturday, for anyone who would like to come and show their support to Michael and Abby. I’m also working on other ways you can show support, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, prayers are greatly appreciated.
