Almanac for Yesterday
On This Day in Wx History
1977- An F-0 tornado cuts a 5-mile path across Cumberland County, near Homestead and Dorton. No injuries are reported.
Yesterday’s National Temperature Extremes
High: 110° at Death Valley, California
Low: 14° at Peter Sinks, Utah
The tropics are certainly active! Teresa is spinning out to sea, as is the system shaded in yellow. The orange-shaded region will need to be monitored closely over the coming week or so. The greatest concern is Hurricane Sam, which I have more info on below.
Hurricane Sam is almost a major hurricane, with winds of 110 mph. The storm is going to slowly churn across the Atlantic. It is a storm that is worth watching, but we have lots of time to do so, especially with it’s slow forward motion. The storm is forecast to become at least a cat 4 over the weekend.

The latest newsletter has been released for this week, featuring topics on Hurricane Hugo and the mysterious noctilucent clouds.
Coming in October, a kid’s science newsletter will be included with the MeteorologistMarkPro subscription! This has been requested many times over the past few years and by October it will be a reality! I’m so excited to be adding this to the growing list of products offered by the Pro subscription! October’s issue is looking really cool!
